Like every origami book, "Origami Games" shows through words and diagrams how to make origami. What makes this book unique is that it's also a game book. It offers suggestions on how to use the origami to play both competitive games, which allow players to test their skills against each other using scorekeeping to determine a winner, and cooperative games, which provide fun ways for players to work as a team. The book also encourages readers to come up with and document their own games using a template provided in the back of the book. This book is also unique in that the models are made from regular letter size (8 x 11- inch) paper available anywhere, unlike the square origami paper usually found only in art supply stores. For many people, the lack of easily available origami paper can be a barrier that prevents them from trying the craft. This book removes that barrier. Many children are intimidated by all but the simplest models, and require some kind of hook, beyond the model itself, to get past their initial resistance. Games are especially effective in breaking down this resistance, and in stimulating interest in origami as an art or craft. The models in this book are designed to be simple, quick to make, and easy to learn, and will be particularly appealing to children in a school setting. There's even a section for parents and teachers that discusses the educational and developmental benefits of origami, along with suggested classroom activities.
